Description
2021 was a vintage marked by unknowns as the world grappled with new complexities. This, however, allowed me to take a deep breath and focus solely on my wines and the Pinot from this year is showing a fabulous elegance in what was the second of three cooler seasons. There are all the classic Pipers River Pinot characters: wild strawberries, fresh rose petal, Turkish Delight, as well as the spice that comes from fermentation in old French oak barriques; the creaminess of gentle lees stirring for 9 months before tirage; the complex toastiness from two and a half years ageing on lees in bottle before release. This is a wine that I am immensely proud of - it shows all that Pipers River is, and all that I believe in and am passionate about, in one glass. The fine, delicate bead will pull you towards a second glass, I have no doubt! It is a wine to celebrate all occassions and when you do, I hope you are transported to my little part of the world.

100% pinot noir straight to old French oak puncheons; disgorged early December 2023. Light salmon pink with a fine, energetic bead and mousse. Notes of redcurrant, strawberry and red forest fruits with a light struck flint tone and hints of violet, oyster shell, ozone, light pastis, brioche, light mushroom broth and stone. Umani, creamed manuka honey and pristine red fruits on the palate with great harmony, flow and tension. A great release.

Pinot noir takes on a unique elegance in Piper’s River and Natalie Fryar has made it a life pursuit to capture it, expressed nowhere more eloquently than in this cuvée. I love that a rosé of such pale, bright, pretty salmon hue can hold such presence of Turkish delight, rose petal, strawberry and red cherry fruit. Old oak barrel fermentation draws out its savoury, biscuity, spicy side and creamy texture, sliding into a supple and silky trail like only Natalie can conjure. Just 2640 bottles
