Description
2020 was a difficult vintage with a cooler growing season. Navigating this allowed an elegant and delicate purity to what is one of my favourite wines from this year. Complex layers of Pipers River fruit come to the fore, along with texture from barrel maturation and the drive of fresh Tasmanian acidity. This is all backed up with the richness of a wine aged for 3 years on lees in the bottle. The Chardonnay gives notes of honeysuckle, white peach, and citrus blossom while the Pinot component brings strawberries, cherries, and complex layers of spice.

I love the juxtaposition between energy and concentration that Natalie Fryar achieves in uniting Piper’s River pinot noir and chardonnay, and 2020 represents a grand exemplar. A strong fruit profile contrasts grapefruit and preserved lemon with subtle exoticism of star fruit. Barrel and lees age have delivered wonderful complexity of crème pâtissière, spice and a delightfully silky texture of lingering, creamy finesse. Just 2477 bottles

60/40% chardonnay/pinot noir, lees stirring and chardonnay at the core of this wine. Wonderfully focused, with a beautiful stony presence and flow on the palate. Umani-rich with oyster shell and maritime tones with white nectarine, almond and clover blossom, creamed honey, powdered stone, light mushroom broth and a real sense of composure and grace. Another great release.
